§ 07troubleshooting
When it won't connect, start here.
❯ thaytool faq "Can't reach your Mac"
check that the Mac is awake, that thaytool is running with "Allow phone connections" on, and that both devices are on the same network (or on Tailscale). guest, hotel and office Wi-Fi often keep devices apart: use Tailscale there. on iPhone, make sure Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network › Thaytool is on. if the Mac's firewall asks, allow incoming connections for Thaytool.
❯ thaytool faq "That code expired"
a pairing code works once, for 10 minutes. on the Mac, click "New code" in Settings › Mobile and scan it again.
❯ thaytool faq "That code didn't work"
the camera read a QR code that isn't a thaytool pairing code. on the Mac, click "Show QR code" in Settings › Mobile and scan that one.
❯ thaytool faq "This phone was removed"
the phone was removed on the Mac (Settings › Mobile). pair it again: click "Show QR code" on the Mac, then tap "Pair with your Mac" in the app.
❯ thaytool faq "That doesn't look like your Mac"
the Mac that answered isn't the one you paired, or thaytool was reinstalled on it. in the app's Settings, remove the Mac, then pair again.
